Rooted in Sustainability- Nairobi Arbitration Week 2025
    April 10, 2025

Dr. Henry Kinyanjui Murigi Appointed as new Registrar/CEO of the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA)

Nairobi, Kenya – The Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Henry Kinyanjui Murigi, PhD, as its new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, effective 24th February 2025.

Dr. Murigi brings to the Centre a wealth of experience spanning more than a decade in alternative dispute resolution (ADR)—including mediation, arbitration, and litigation. An accomplished Advocate of the High Court with over 13 years in practice, he has held senior leadership roles in both the public and private sectors, making him uniquely qualified to steer NCIA into its next chapter.

    A Track Record of Excellence

Before his appointment, Dr. Murigi was a Partner at Daniel Henry & Company Advocates, where he specialized in arbitration, mediation, and commercial litigation. He also served with distinction as a Principal Prosecution Counsel at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), handling complex anti-corruption and economic crimes cases that shaped national policy and legal precedent.

Beyond his practice, Dr. Murigi is an academic trailblazer. His publication, Faith-Based Access to Justice in Kenya (2023), and a number of peer-reviewed journal articles, have contributed significantly to the development of ADR jurisprudence in the region.

    Academic & Professional Credentials

Dr. Murigi holds a PhD in International Relations from United States International University-Africa, an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies from Kenyatta University, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

His diverse background and scholarly approach are expected to drive the NCIA’s mission forward—to make Nairobi a premier hub for international arbitration, grounded in innovation, sustainability, and accessible justice.

    A Vision for the Future

During a handover ceremony held at NCIA headquarters, NCIA Board Chairperson Ms. Jacquiline Oyuyo-Githinji welcomed Dr. Murigi, praising his “exceptional leadership qualities and deep expertise in arbitration.”

“Dr. Murigi’s appointment marks a new chapter for NCIA. His extensive experience and visionary approach will undoubtedly strengthen our position as a leading arbitration Centre in Africa and beyond,” said Ms. Oyuyo.

In his remarks, Dr. Murigi expressed gratitude to the Board and outlined a bold vision for the Centre’s future:

“I am honored to join the NCIA at such a pivotal time. My vision is to elevate Nairobi’s standing as a global arbitration hub while driving innovation and sustainability in dispute resolution. I look forward to collaborating with stakeholders to expand the Centre’s impact both regionally and internationally.”

    A Well-Rounded Leader

Beyond his legal and academic accomplishments, Dr. Murigi is passionate about community development. He is actively involved in mentorship, serves as a board chairman, and volunteers as a teacher. His personal interests include traveling, academic research, and philosophy—all of which reflect a well-rounded worldview that will no doubt influence his leadership style at NCIA.

With Dr. Murigi at the helm, NCIA is poised to expand its global footprint, enhance service delivery, and shape the future of international arbitration in Africa and beyond.
