
Mr Gichinga Ndirangu
Gichinga Ndirangu is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Masters in international dispute resolution from Queen Mary University, London and a Bachelors of laws degree, LLB (Hons), from the University of Nairobi.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and has served as an arbitrator over the last 10 years at the level of Fellow. He has been appointed as an arbitrator in disputes touching on property rights, contractual rights, employment disputes, amongst others. Some of his awards have featured on the Kenya Law Reports with strong affirmation from the High Court.
Mr Ndirangu currently serves as a consultant Legal Specialist on Private Sector investment climate reforms with the International Finance Corporation and previously served as the Legal Advisor to the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) where he advised on laws impacting on Private Sector investment and oversaw Private Sector engagements with departmental committees of the two Houses of Parliament.
He has over 20 years’ experience on legal and regulatory policy issues working in various advisory roles at national, regional and global levels and over the last 10 years, has worked on numerous legal and business process reengineering processes impacting on Private Sector Investment in Kenya.
Among the areas he has advised on legal reforms include Kenya’s energy sector with a focus on renewables, tax reforms, streamlining judicial processes to expedite resolution of commercial disputes through the establishment of the Small Claims Court as a pilot at the Milimani Commercial courts and streamlining land transaction registration procedures at the Ministry of Lands. In recognition of this work, he was awarded the Head of State commendation by H.E Uhuru Kenyata.
Mr Ndirangu currently serves as lead legal advisor on the review of legislation on the Warehouse Receipt System and was also the lead consultant in drafting the Turkana County Government Investment Corporation Bill that is now before the County Assembly. He has supported 3 other counties in the development of investment legislation.
In 2023, Mr Ndirangu was appointed the chair of the Insurance Appeals Tribunal and has been involved in the determination of various disputes in the insurance industry.
He was previously appointed by Chief Justice emeritus Dr. Willy Mutunga to serve as a member of the Mediation Accreditation Committee (MAC) tasked with overseeing the role out of the Court-annexed Mediation Programme in the judiciary. He chaired the ethics committee of MAC and oversaw the development of ethical standards for court-appointed mediators. He was also appointed by Treasury CS, Henry Rotich, to serve on the task force that reviewed the Public Procurement & Asset Disposal Act Regulations.
Mr Ndirangu has extensive experience working on development law with a primary focus on trade laws and Intellectual Property rights. He has served as the Global Head of Trade Policy at ActionAid International before joining Oxfam International in Pretoria, South Africa, as the Southern Africa Regional Policy Advisor (Trade & Investment). He later served as the Regional Coordinator for Health Action International (Africa) working on access to medicines and Intellectual Property Rights and concurrently was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Africa Medicines Regulatory Harmonization (AMRH) Programme established by NEPAD which advised on the legal framework on medicines in Africa.
